The counts below come from our mirror of the register’s open data, current to August 1, 2026. They show where the strikings-off land, in which cities and in which sectors, and what to check if your own corporation sits in the same column.
A striking-off is not an exceptional penalty. It is the mechanical end of a file left without an annual update declaration for two consecutive years. It happens with no phone call, no last-minute warning, and usually without the owner knowing.

Montréal accounts for 24.8% of the month’s strikings-off. The useful reading is density rather than rank: a city with many head offices mechanically produces more abandoned files, and the city on the register is the declared domicile, not the place the business actually operates.

The month’s leading sector is "Sociétés de portefeuille (holdings)", with 625 strikings-off. Holding companies and service companies come back every month for the same reason: they are structures opened for one transaction, then stopped being used, and nobody closes them properly. A forgotten corporation is not a neutral corporation, it keeps producing obligations.

The spikes are not waves of severity. The Registraire processes files in batches, and a quiet month followed by a heavy one describes its processing calendar, not a change of policy.
What it costs to get back in good standing
An unfiled annual update declaration costs $106 in fees plus a penalty of 50% of the fees due, which is $53. Each missed year therefore comes to $159. After a striking-off, revocation adds $134 in fees, and online payment is no longer possible: that is the point where a two-year backlog turns into a process measured in weeks.

Method
The counts come from the open data of the Registraire des entreprises du Québec, re-imported into our mirror twice a month. The selection covers corporations whose register status is "struck off by the Registraire" and whose status date falls inside the month. Cities and sectors are the ones declared on the register. The directory of corporations by city gives the same information file by file, and the FAQ explains how a striking-off works.
